Those of us who can't get enough pretty design pictures have been following the dieline blog since 2008. We are thrilled to have our design work for Dulce Vida Tequila get a mention in today's posts.

Hooray for Second Place! We are honestly ecstatic that our packaging design for Dulce Vida Tequila claimed a silver medal at the 2011 San Francisco World Spirits Competition. It goes without saying that we raised a toast or two upon receiving word of the honor.

For what it's worth, the annual competition is in its 11th year and touts itself as the most reputable and recognized competition in the spirits industry. There were over 1100 entries this year representing 61 countries. Entries were evaluated by panel of 33 judges who were likely well-lit by the time they got to the packaging portion of the competition. No matter to us–We'll take the award drunk or sober.

We were asked to design this year's invitation to the Texas Film Hall of Fame awards. We devised a method of animating the two-dimensional invitation with a lenticular overlay. The effect is rather addictive to play with.

(psst. page 81) We've also been informed that a handfull of our other logo designs have made it into the forthcoming "Master Library Vol. 3", we'll keep you posted on when that is due to hit shelves.

It's been a little over a year since The Texas Tribune launched (November 2009) and the statistics for the website are simply amazing. Here is a small sampling:

"In the second half of the year, we averaged nearly 254,000 per month. In our institutional heart of hearts, we thought we might, possibly, maybe get to 150,000 by the end of the year."

Editor-in-Chief, Evan Smith has even more interesting stats on his blog, T-Squared over at The Texas Tribune site. As Evan mentions in his post, there are more than a few enhancements that will be rolling out this month. These changes come at a perfect time. Much has been learned about the readers and their habits over the past year, technologies (especially social) continue to evolve and philosophies on news and news cycles have shifted on the content/editorial side.

New features, really cool apps and some site tweaks are all on the menu for the next few weeks. We are happy and proud to be involved in the ongoing evolution of such a great media outlet.
